When it comes to caring for baby hygienically, I don't use too many products. Initially bathed her with only water and massaged her with coconut oil. These days I use either pure/raw black soap or a very basic oatmeal bar soap (containing only a few ingredients that are all natural) where needed. When it comes to her hair, I use a homemade liquefied African black soap shampoo to wash and argon, rose hip, or coconut oil to seal in moisture. I'm totally fine with using only coconut oil, but my man purchased the other two oils for himself and me, so every now and then I'll use them on baby's hair when the mood strikes me.
The only other products I use on her or have used are those produced by The Honest Company. They're commitment to keeping their products non-toxic and eco-friendly really speaks to how I strive to relate to my child when it comes to her health. Not to mention that I really like their packaging designs.
Currently I only use one of their products on her and that's the Honest Healing Balm. If there's any sort of redness on her bottom (which, thankfully we rarely experience since we're now taking a different approach to addressing her elimination needs) or any other skin irritation that arises, I apply this product. It provides relief to the condition very quickly.
Previously I was bathing her with their shampoo/body wash, but I learned that it contains a few products that I don't want to use on her particularly. It is a great product, though, and I've bathed with it myself in the past.
We've also used their baby wipes. At this point, however, I've minimized the need for them since these days I use cloth wipes and a homemade solution or just water.
But, just the other day they were offering free shipping on orders of $20 or more, so I took them up on that offer and ordered a few packs of wipes and some air/fabric freshener. Considering that they'd normally charge over $15 to ship only a couple of items out here, I had to take advantage of the offer.
It's still likely that I won't use these on her daily, as I like to make stuff last and my current system using cloth wipes works wonderfully. It will be nice to have these on the rare occasions that we're out, though.
Although I've never used them, they've got the cutest disposable diapers!
Unlike the ones typically sold in stores, these are "ultra absorbent, eco-friendly diapers...extra soft, hypoallergenic, free of chlorine processing & risky additives (like fragrances, lotions, and latex)." Now, don't get me wrong, I have used disposables in the past while improving upon the cloth diapering process and have still got a full box in the closet (given to us by a friend). Every two weeks or so I'll use one on her for one reason or another. But at this point diapers of any kind just aren't that big of a deal to me cause I'm working on getting her out of diapers. If we were using disposables, though, I'm sure I'd be ordering some like these from Honest all the time.
Before I finished this post we went to our favorite local health food store, Down to Earth, and it was good to see that they've started carrying Honest products.
The only other place I've seen them is at Costco, and that was the body wash.
There were items there that I wasn't even familiar with. I couldn't resist getting some of the antibacterial spray for those times when it's really needed.
As mentioned previously, I do like what the company represents and while I'm not into a whole lot of different products for use on my baby, The Honest Company produces several that I think are great for the entire family.
